Alright, so I'm hearing that the people want a master list of betas that they can choose from.  (It's always less frightening than asking personally.)  Besides, I'm good at masterlists.

beta - n. someone who reads stuff and tells you why it sucks. Or, a very nice helpful editor.

Comment here if you'd be willing to beta an author's story/stories.  Try and answer these questions:

How intense of a beta are you?  Are you willing to give tips on completely rewriting a story, plot/character development, and such?  Or are you just here for grammar and spelling?

What lengths of fic can you beta?  This follows along with the first question.  Some people are up for betaing hundred-thousand-word fics.  (That's insanity at its best.)  Some people can't do anything over a thousand.  Take your stance.

What do you hate to read?  Can you just absolutely not read slash, or non-canon, or AU?  (Shame, shame on you. Hehe.)   Or are you just unable to stomach the thought of Edward/Bella? What about tenses?  I mean, some people hate second person.  Tell us that.

What do you love to read?  Anything in particular is fine.  Tell us your favorite ships, favorite storylines (for example, you might have a weakness for human!Edward, that sort of thing), and favorite story types.  (My favorite are short character studies, as opposed to long plotlines, etc.)

How can we contact you?  EVERYTHING.  Email, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Gmail, Livejournal, Facebook, Myspace -- anything that you actually check that people can utilize to get in touch with you.

I think that's everything.  If I've missed something, do let me know.  The masterlist of available betas will be hosted here (page two here) so if you leave a comment to this post I'll add you to the Available Betas page.

Have fun, guys :)

So, I guess I'll start?

How intense of a beta are you?  I'm pretty intense.  If you like, I'll tear apart your story and sew it back together with pretty thread, but that's only if you ask nicely.  I can do lots of things, editing-wise, but if you just need me for a quick grammar/spelling look-through, I'm down with that. :)

What lengths of fic can you beta?  Um.  Well, see, I'm going to have to go out on a limb here and say less than five thousand words. If you can really sell me on your fic idea, then MAYBE I'll consider my limit, but I really don't have that great of an attention span.  (One of my many flaws.)

What do you hate to read?  There are five main ships that I absolutely can't read.  Those are: Edward/Bella, Jacob/Bella, Jasper/Alice, Emmett/Rosalie, and Carlisle/Esme.  Generally, I don't read canon (that is, relationships that have happened in the books).  If you look at the stories I've written, you can probably get that idea.  Also, I can't read any original characters. So that means when Bella's vampire/werewolf/witch cross-bred sister comes to Forks, I'm having no part of it.  Again, sorry, but that's just my personal preference!  I don't mean to offend anyone.  I'm sure you can find a beta who would love to read your stuff :)

What do you love to read?  NONCANON.  Ships that are completely outside the realm of possibility and that would never, ever happen in the Twilight universe.  Slash and femslash is a bonus, too.  Um, what else.  Character studies.  That is, stories that focus more on the character and their thoughts than on the plotline.

I think that's all?  If your fic doesn't have anything I've listed that I love -- OR that I hate -- send me a quick email and check with me.  It doesn't bother me :)

How can we contact you?  The best way to contact me is through email (kaiwynn @ twilightarchives . com) or a comment or message through Livejournal (kaiwynn).  That's about all I check, really.

Okay, this looks kind of like an essay.  Oh well.  I hope you love me anyway?

- Kaiwynn on 02 Jun 2008 01:05 AM

How intense of a beta are you? I really like perfection, well anything close to it. I will probably offer you suggestions and try to fix your story but if you want some hardcore criticism, I could also give that. I can be nice, but I can be mean if you'd like.

What lengths of fic can you beta? I don't have a limit, but I absolutely dislike short chapters. I dislike reading chapters that are barely over 500 words. Sorry, I like long, well-played chapters.

What do you hate to read? I positively, passionately hate reading stories in Edward's point of view only if his mentality and his personality is not portrayed well. I hate reading them and having Edward be illiterate or just not being himself, I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but I just can't stand him not being him. I just basically hate reading stories that any of the characters aren't showed realistically.

What do you love to read? I love reading AU, or when Edward is human, that's my favorite. I also like, like Kaiwynn, non-canon stories. I love imagination and though I'm still working on my non-canon story, I also like Edward/Bella, hahah.

How can we contact you? Preferably email. My email is my bio, but this is it gabriella_523@hotmail.com

How intense of a beta are you?  I am a spelling/grammar nazi. I'm really picky about stuff like that, so if that's what you're looking for... I'm also happy to help you with plot ideas... pretty much anything!

What lengths of fic can you beta? I don't really care - as long or as short as you like! I do have a preference for one-shots though.

What do you hate to read? I hate reading stories where the perspectives of different characters change to quickly. I also hate it when people don't portray the characters personalities properly.

What do you love to read? I do love a good Bella/Edward, but I don't really have a big preference. Like I said, I do prefer one-shots to massively long plot-lines, but basically, if the story itself is good, then I'll read it.

How can we contact you? I check my email everyday, so if you want to reach me, that's probably the best place. My email is xtwilightx@live.com.au

How intense of a beta are you?   I'm intense, and occasionally harsh. I don't try to spare the author's feelings, but I do give praise for good work. I'm willing to go over everything is a story. Research, incorrect information, plot ,grammar, and spelling.

What lengths of fic can you beta? I'm good with anything. The longer the better

What do you hate to read?  I don't deal well with slash, and I'm not too fond of anything that has Edward and Bella with another character, but I'll give it a go.

What do you love to read?  I'm pretty versatile. I like to read anything. My favorite stories are about the pack though.

How can we contact you?  I check my e-mail every day ( ginaveragurl@hotmail.com ) but I also have a facebook and myspace that I check prett regularly

- Ginavera on 02 Jun 2008 12:01 PM

How intense of a beta are you? Im crazy about grammar and spelling. Im very honest, and willing to give contstructive criticism if you want me to. Im willing to help with storylines and ideas and whatever else the author needs help with.

What lengths of fic can you beta? I don't mind, I'll read anything you want me to.

What do you hate to read? I don't hate. I love the twilight saga, so any type of story is good with me.

What do you love to read?  I love to read anything. I do have a soft spot for a good love/romance story and stories with alot of angst and drama.

How can we contact you? You can im me on aim, ellebelle7896. Im on most of the day, and when im not i check my email several times a day (ellebelle7895@yahoo.com) and i have a live journal, ellebell7895.

How intense of a beta are you?
I'm particularly good at copy-editing, so I tend to spot most if not all grammar/spelling mistakes, but I also note problems with the text itself (like, should there be more transition between dialogue or if something doesn't make sense). I am also willing to discuss plotline issues with the writer, if they ask.

What lengths of fic can you beta?
I do have limited time to beta-read stories, but if I am beta-ing a chaptered story and I am only sent one chapter at a time, it is usually not an issue. I generally try to read and respond to writers promptly after they send me a story or chapter, but sometimes it can take a couple days -- depending on what else is going on in my life.

What do you hate to read?
I can't say I "hate" to read anything -- but I generally enjoy stories that are original and well-thought.

What do you love to read?
Again, I love original and well-thought out stories. I'm a true "Team Edward" girl, so I love Bella/Edward stories, but I'm already a beta for a couple of true Jacob-lovers, so they have given me a bit of a soft spot for the dog. ;)

How can we contact you?  The absolutely best way to contact me is through e-mail: kayla_ariev@comcast.net -- I check it regularly and generally respond within a day or so of being contacted. Response times can be odd, however, because I work a graveyard shift at work. So anyone who sends me stories to be edited, should know that I will probably reply at odd times -- usually either late morning or in the middle of the night.

- Kayla Ariev on 02 Jun 2008 04:10 PM

How intense of a beta are you?  Im pretty intense, if i may say. I catch any grammer problems or spelling problems. I may be harsh sometimes and add little things that could make the story flow better. I do take beta-ing seriously. It's not just reading for me, the author im betaing for wants their story as great as can be. If someone was betaing my story i would want them to do it as if they were doing their own story and not slack off.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  less then 4 thousand words, thats my limit. lol.

What do you hate to read?  Anything in the Bella/Jake love stories or anything werewolf, im not a werewolf fan sooo im not good in that category. lol anything ill be fine with.

What do you love to read?  my favorite stories to beta are AU and Cullen things. I'll totally beta your for that.

How can we contact you?  E-mail or IM both my yahoo and email are on my bio.

email:Eternitys_Charm@yahoo.com

IM: eternitys_charm [[yahoo IM]]

- Eternitys_charm on 02 Jun 2008 04:27 PM

I think I'll take a stab at this. I've betaed a few things over on mugglenet.

How intense of a beta are you?  Oh, I'm pretty intense...lol. Just kidding! I tend to try and tell you in a nice way. I'm really good at spotting grammar and spelling mistakes and whatnot. I'm kind of a perfectionist so you'll see TONS of comments from me...most of the time I'm just like I really like this part. I leave comments on things I like and dislike. And I leave in lots of little opinions like well, this isn't bad but if I was writing it I would...

And I LOVE discussing the story with the author like if they need plot or characterization help.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  Anything. I really don't want to waste my time on something under 500 words though unless you are planning on developing it more and just need to make sure you're on the right track or something like that.

What do you hate to read?   Slash is the only thing I refuse to do. I take everthing else. I'm not a big fan of the Jacob/Bella stuff but I'll still edit it.

What do you love to read?  All of it except for slash and Jacob/Bella. I love anything with Jasper or Edward especially. <3

How can we contact you?  Email would be the big one for me--nancydrewer@zoominternet.net. Just put something like 'Twilight Beta' or something in the subject line. I tend to check it daily. If you want a faster response and have a muggletnet name you can pm me, hermione_granger4life, over on the forums and get almost an instant response.

Did I mention I'm an english minor? Lol. Looking forward to some beta work! :)

 Hey! I love beta-ing :)

How intense of a beta are you?  I am pretty intense ;) I like to edit grammer, spelling, and word choice. I also know if the story is going to work or not...will people read it or not?! I also like giving people ideas on how to make it more interesting or make more sense to the reader.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  Pretty sure I can do as much as you want :) If it's a good story, then I'm up for it! I know it how feels to write a hundred thousand, I"m pretty sure I can edit it!

What do you hate to read?  Hmm, I don't like to read those stupid "Bella/Jacob" stories,It's NOT going to happen people. And I'm getting kinda tired of "Look, Jacob ran away and imprinted on me!" kinda thing.  Get over it. Heehee. Everything else, I love :) non-cannon, poems, whateva baby!

What do you love to read?  I love reading those stories that make you go "AWW" and "That's so sweet!" But I also love cannon ships and The wolves. LOVE the pack stories! I like reading long stuff and short stuff, it's all cool with me.

How can we contact you?  My Email is my life: I check it everyday multiple times! curioushashmi@yahoo.com. I also have a livejournal: http://edwardsgirl.livejournal.com/ My AIM is curiousatheart.

K...Um, I think that pretty much sums it up :) Oh, for reassurance, I'm the editor of my school newspaper---I'm used to editing a LOT of work!

 Toodles--bleedforyou

- bleedforyou on 02 Jun 2008 05:08 PM

I just finished my junior year, so I officially have time to beta again... yay!

How intense of a beta are you? Well, I'm kinda intense, but not terrible... I'm big on word choice and spelling. I also pay close attention to sentence structure and details--- continuity and whatnot. Grammar is kina ugh... but I still pay attention to it.

What lengths of fic can you beta? This may sound snobby, but, see, I have to like the story I'm beta-ing. If I don't like the first chapter, then I probably won't beta the rest of it. Sorry... that's just me. I wouldn't be too careful if I didn't like it, 'cause I'd end up skimming instead of actually reading.

What do you hate to read? I don't particularly enjoy smut -- which isn't allowed here, so it doesn't really matter, or slash. If it isn't too graphic I can deal with it though. There are some non canon that I like... but not very many. I usually stick to the way Steph wrote it.

What do you love to read? I LOVE anything Jake or Pack-centric, but no OCs.  I like pretty much everything aside from what is mentioned above. I do look for originality, though... I don't really want to read another 'Bella gets turned into a vamp and the Volturi attack' or another 'Edward never came back, and this is what happened' one, either. No offense to people with these kinds of stories, but they are WAY overdone.

Contact info: Best way is by email -- bookworm06@gotmc.net

My livejournal and I are connected at the hip... http://evenafterdeath.livejournal.com/

Or just comment on one of my stories.

Ok, well... that was really long, so I'm gonna stop typing now...bye.

Adieu.

- addictedtotwilight on 02 Jun 2008 07:10 PM
Haha... I just realized that I should probably warn people that I tend to be a little blunt.... I tear apart, and can be slightly vicious. Ask bleedforyou... she knows. Sorry!
- addictedtotwilight on 02 Jun 2008 07:12 PM

How Intense: You tell me! I'm flexible! If you want me to be your spelling and grammar aide, but want me to butt out when it comes to the actual story, I can do that! Or, I can be your living nightmare *insert evil laugh*

Seriously, though, I can be your word choice guide, your canon guru, anything you want me to be. But! If I don't like the story all that much, I won't pay much attention to it. So look at what I like and hate for best results! (I sound like a shampoo commercial xD)

Lengths: If it's a multi-chapter story, I can go on as long as you can! Well, as long as  there is only around 4,000 words per chapter. If it's a one-shot, 4,000 words. 4,000 words is all I can take at once (not in total).

Hates: Slash. The Cullens human. I can deal with AU most of the time, but I have to draw the line every so often. I can't do poems unless it's for spelling/grammar. I stink at poetry.

Bella/Jacob. OC/Jacob, it often seems to much like the author is inserting themselves into the story, even if you swear it isn't. So this means I'm iffy when it comes to OC stories unless I can be totally sure this girl isn't a Mary-Sue (and I will (or have you) run them through one or two tests)

Likes: Anything not listed above, really. I really enjoy plot-twists, post-Eclipse decades in the future, and any Jacob/Canon (as long as it's female and not Bella) Aww stories and sad stories are all big winners with me. ... So are OOC humor stories. Original plotlines are another, but I can always beta a slightly overdone one if it's really good with at least some originality.

Contact: Hrmm. Basically you can contact me at greeneyedr@gmail.com, I check it every one to two days. Mostly every day, since I check it for reviews and other things like that for other sites.

Oh! You can also PM me at ff.net if you have an account there. http://www.fanfiction.net/~Greeneyedreader

Other: *Coughs* Umm, well, let's just say if you refuse to accept my advice on something you said I could give advice on, I won't beta your story anymore. Yeah. I have a slight temper *giggles sheepishly*

I have no problem with adult themes or words in any way. As long as you're not going overboard. But other than that, I'm there with you thick and thin. Unless I notify you otherwise.

Peace, love and chocolate

(Jeez, is it me or is this thing really long?)

How intense of a beta are you?  Okay, Lets face it i love that everyone writes! So that means ill encourage who ever i beta for but at the same time, beware, i am brutally honest, if it stinks, ill tell you. Im a grammer freak on other peoples writings, i tend to not really care about my own so disavow the horrid grammer in this area. I love to work with Dailogue and helping people develope new characters or get those characters they know into character.

What lengths of fic can you beta? Ill beta most any length, i prefer under 2,000 word chapters most of the time cause they are quicker,

What do you hate to read?  I will say it out here, I do not like reading Bella and any one other than Edward, Jacob and occasional Jasper. that means no Bella and Sam or Bella and carlisle! Also im sorry, Alice and Edward are sibblings, not lovers! if you write stuff like that, ill still beta it, but i will not be happy!

What do you love to read?  I love everything else, especially pack boy stories, and i've just been getting obsessed with Leah imprint stories.

How can we contact you?  Lilbeer6@aol.com

if this becomes a definite partnership i will give you my other email adress, but i dont like giving that one out for introduction emails as i put it

Other than that, a mere warning, i wont be around for two weeks at the end of june early july

- bloodredskies on 02 Jun 2008 08:41 PM
Oh! I should add that though this won't be my first time editing something, it will be my first time beta-ing. So please go easy on me if I say something wrong.
- Jet the Cat on 02 Jun 2008 09:15 PM

How intense of a beta are you?  I can be honest about parts the are horrible, but I won't just leave it at that. I can help you change things. Grammar and spelling are fun too. Haha, I need to practice for teaching anyway.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  Any length. It might take a little if I get a story during the evening, but usually no more than 3 days. Unless, I'm on vacation, then I would tell the person I am beta-ing for.

What do you hate to read? Nothing. I love it all. I just am not good at helping with poetry. Unless it is just for spelling/grammar

What do you love to read?  Everything else. Poetry not included.

How can we contact you?  AIM~ freedreamer818
Email ~ only if I'm beta-ing your story will I give that out. Sorry. I have a bunch of spam, and I'll need to have you on my address list so it doesn't get deleted first.

- Son_Chanteur on 02 Jun 2008 09:57 PM

OH, I should add that for lengths, I don't mind if it's broken down into chapters. If you write a story that is 12 chapters long, I would like them in 2 or 3 chapter sets at most. Otherwise, it would take more than 3 days to get back to you with it.

Sorry for the extra comment!

- Son_Chanteur on 02 Jun 2008 09:58 PM

How intense of a beta are you?  I can be pretty intense with structure and stuff if need be, but I can also just look over it for grammar, spelling, and flow. If you're writing canon, I can definitely check to make sure it seems canon and in character and such.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  I can beta anything over 500 words, since I like longer stories. Heck, I'd be up for betaing a hundred-thousand-word fic; yup, I'm insane. Haha.

What do you hate to read?  I don't read slash or femslash so I wouldn't be a helpful beta for that. I also wouldn't be very helpful with anything to graphic, but I'm pretty sure no smut is allowed here, anyway.

What do you love to read? I love canon or AU both, and my favorite are ones that are set pre-twilight or deal with characters that don't get a lot of fan-fic love. If anyone wants to write a Jared-Kim fic, for example, I would definitely be game. And going along with that, I love character studies of the lesser known characters.

How intense of a beta are you?  I'm really picky about how a story is written. It's not that it has to be written from thirdd person,or first, its that if a story is not going good, i will drop it. I just can't stand it when a story doesn't make sense. Grammar-wise, I really could care less.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  I don't have all the time in the world,  but i could read twilight fanfic all day.

What do you hate to read?  I don't care what point of view its from, as long as they keep it from one point of view. It can get really hard to read if a story keeps changing from third person to first person. I'm also not a Edward/Bella fan. I just don't like it when icky vampires get in my way. lol. But i will read it...because people seem to like the topic of Edward/Bella. i don't know why...

What do you love to read?  Anything Jacob/Bella. or even just Jacob. I love Jacob. I like stories that go into pretty great detail, and that don't just blurt things out. Keep you wondering, ya' know?

How can we contact you?  e-mail me at purplegirl1995@satchtech.com or smileys126@aim.com or catch me online, my AIM is smileys126.

How intense of a beta are you?  It depends on what the person is asking for - I'll do just about anything when it comes to editing, but I need permission to be harsh or I will not be. If I'm just told 'beta this', then I will probably only go after very improbable points and the typical spelling/grammar.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  I have time on my hands to beta long pieces.

What do you hate to read?  I will not read slash or anything that would be rated over PG-13.

What do you love to read?  I'll read just about anything.

How can we contact you?  Email: rkfreak@comcast.net

That's the email I check frequently. I have two other addresses that don't get checked very often, so I won't list them.

How intense of a beta are you?  Um, intense. i will add sentences, and plotlines, and characters, and anything that occurs to me. i am a perfectionist and i don't respect other people's right to write what they want.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  Anything from a 500-word one-shot to a novel-length fic.

What do you hate to read?  There are some plotlines which make me nauseous. if your story involves vampires reproducing, i will NOT read it. i'm also kind of picky about quality. if i don't like it, i won't beta it, no offense- it doesn't say anything about your writing, more about me.

What do you love to read?  I love one-shots, Quil/Claire, and anything about the Cullens. I like slash too.

What lengths of fic can you beta?  Anything really i dont mind if its a one-shot or if its a really long story

What do you hate to read?   I dont really like it when one of the characters dose something that no one would do in real life but i dont normally look at bad things when im commenting rather the good but i would mention it to the  author

I'd love to Beta! :)

How intense of a beta are you?

I can really do whatever you like. I love to read stories and think to myself 'How would I write this?' I also go crazy when my friends slaughter words spelling wise. I'll read stories and be like "wrong spelling. Wrong spelling." It's easier when it's not your work. I can do whatever you like... but it depends on how YOU write the stry and if I see things I don't agree with.

What lengths of fic can you beta? I'll beta long long long stories. I'm up to it. I LOVE to read as long as the entire time you aren't just repeating what you're saying but in different words.

What do you hate to read?

I CANNOT read stories about Edward being unfaithful to Bella. Those seriously make me wanna tear my hair out.

What do you love to read?

Anything Twilight related. I really like NEW ideas. Like, when someone writes 'continuation of New Moon Edward comes back. How will they cope?' I skip right on over it. But if it's not just about Edward coming back... if there is a twist, then I love to read them. Savvy? Basically something new and twisty turny.

How can we contact you?

E-mail: I have several but I recommend Ranchodelmarr@aol.com If I don't respond to your e mail within a few hours, I will seriously eat my own hand... or do something drastic because I am ALWAYS at my computer. How intense of a beta are you?

I will review grammer, spelling, puntuation, etc. I refrain from adding character and/or plotlines without the consent of the author.

What lengths of fic can you beta?

I can beta any length of fics. If it doesn't follow the guidelines of submitting a story, I do not bother even reading it, I send it back to the author and tell them what guidelines were not followed.[500 words min.]

What do you hate to read?  I do not like to read stories that are Jacob/Bella LOVE stories, but I can handle them. I cannot read any story that involves a vampire and a werewolf imprinting on each other, or a vampire getting pregnant. In other words, things that cannot and will not ever happen.

What do you love to read?  I adore Non-cannon ships and I enjoy character studies, esp. minor characters [Gianna, Mike, Angela]. I also love reading fluff, and one-shots. All genres are great!

How intense of a beta are you? I'm really intense about grammar and spelling. However, if you need me to go deeper than that, I'm definitely game. I aim for perfection.

What lengths of fic can you beta? Any length is fine, but I prefer one shots or very short chaptered stories. If you really impress me with your plot, I'll definitely consider much longer stories as well.

What do you hate to read? I'm not a huge fan of any Jacob/OC stories, mainly because I hate reading characters that weren't in the books. Also, I'm not a huge fan of Jacob/Bella, but if the story is nicely written, I can deal with it.

What do you love to read? I'm a huge fan of Edward/Bella and Edward/Carlisle/Bella. I'm usually just a canon person, because I've fallen in love with those relationships.
